Biography

Étienne Morissette have always been drawn towards a career in science or engineering. In Cégep, he discovered the field of ecology, and have been dedicated to pursuing a career in this discipline ever since.

He entered UdeM in 2022 for a bachelor’s in biological sciences, specializing in biodiversity, evolution and ecology. During this time he refined his focus to plant ecology, which is particularly interesting to him as vegetation has the greatest influence on overall terrestrial ecosystem functioning. His curiosity about ecosystem dynamics has also led him to learn about related fields such as climatology, pedology, statistics, and geomatics.

Étienne has joined DIVERSE in 2024. Forests are extremely interesting and important ecosystems, especially in Canada, and he believes that action is needed to help increase their resilience in the face of the rapid warming expected in the coming decades—which is why he supports Prof. Christian Messier’s ideas, and the DIVERSE project as a whole.
