Biography

Charlotte is interested in using quantitative ecological approaches to investigate how forests grow and respond to stressors and disturbances. Charlotte has a BSc in biology from Dalhousie University and a master’s degree in forest conservation from the University of Toronto. She has worked as a forest technician and biologist for the Government of Ontario and has also conducted climate change research for the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority. Charlotte credits her love of forests to the many summers she spent working as a backcountry canoe trip guide.

In 2024, Charlotte attended boreal forest management workshops in northern Ontario and noticed that the same question came up time and time again: “How do we best manage our forests in an increasingly uncertain future?” Charlotte believes that this question represents a—if not the—core challenge in forestry. DIVERSE offers a unique opportunity to directly tackle this challenge by exploring and testing innovative management strategies that promote forest resiliency and adaptability in the face of uncertainty. Charlotte is excited for the opportunity to work on this challenge with the rest of the DIVERSE team!
