Hugo is from Belgium. He has always been passionate about forests, which naturally led him to become a forest engineer specializing in ecological restoration and remote sensing. Following an internship at FAO, he decided to pursue research and is currently working on his PhD under the co-supervision of Prof. Christian Messier and Prof. Jean-François Bastin from ULiège (BE).
His research focuses on the remote sensing of forest attributes related to health and resilience. He is constantly exploring new approaches and gathering new insights from the data he works with. He particularly enjoys working with LiDAR and multitemporal datasets, as well as drinking way too much coffee while debugging R code!
What excites him most about DIVERSE is the chance to expand his horizons, collaborate and connect with researchers from various disciplines, and contribute (a bit) to forest preservation efforts globally. He can’t wait to see how far we’ll go!
