Tahia Devisscher

Research Collaborator

Position

Assistant Professor at the UBC Faculty of Forestry

Biography

Tahia’s interest in ecology began during childhood while playing in the forest. In the early years of her research career after completing graduate studies, her primary focus was on studying forest ecosystems across the global tropics. She conducted work in large forested landscapes of Borneo, the Congo Basin, and the Amazon. In more recent years, her research expanded to include urban forests. Broadly, her collaborations examine how forests can be managed to enhance resilience to climate change impacts and how relationships between people and forests can be strengthened.

The DIVERSE project presents an exciting opportunity for Tahia to explore innovative approaches to forest management in the context of future climates across various Canadian locations. Additionally, this project serves as an excellent platform to investigate how communities perceive and either support or contest these emerging forest management practices.
